Welcome to Hangar 502! We’re James and Becky Hughes, and we’re so excited to share our story with you.
Our Story
After James served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force—10 of which were spent stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas—we found ourselves visiting Boulder City (BC) often. We’d stop by after enjoying some downtime at Lake Mead and always loved the charm of this community.
In early 2021, we saw a “For Sale” sign on this historic building at 502 Nevada Way (Edie’s Flower Shop). That’s when inspiration struck. Becky had always dreamed of opening a sandwich shop, and we felt BC could use a space like this. We jumped in with both feet and purchased the building in March of 2021. We moved to BC in November of 2021, and in the fall of 2023, we began renovating the old flower shop and transforming it into what you see today.
What started as an idea for a simple sandwich shop quickly grew into more. Hangar 502 became a fusion of everything we love: an artisan deli, scratch made food, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and a place that celebrates the Military and Combat Search & Rescue (CSAR) with its unique aviation-inspired vibe. The name, of course, reflects that history—and the building’s address.
Since opening in May 2024, Hangar 502 has become more than just a business; it’s a part of this community. Winning the 2024 Best of Boulder City Award for Best New Business was such an honor, but what means the most to us is creating a space where Friends, Family, Active Duty Military, Veterans, Retiree’s, First Responders, and Tourists can come together, feel safe and welcomed, and enjoy great food and great company.

The History
502 Nevada Way has a rich history dating back to 1933. While details are limited, we know that in 1933 it served as the local barber shop. According to city records, the building was later home to Edie’s and Sher-lo’s Flowers, operating from 1965 to 2021. The property had not seen significant improvements since the 1980s, making this a complete remodel—including updates to the roof, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, ADA compliance, signage, windows, and paint.
